Subject: LORDS Taster/Promotional Weekend 19th/20th October

Dear All,To get you into the swing of off roading and enable you to find out if it is something for you if you’re unsure, we are holding our annual promotional off roading weekend at Donnington on the 19th and 20th of October as a taster session.  This means that even if you are not a member you can attend the event. After this event only members are covered by the SU insurance policy and can attend events.

This event is the highlight of the LORDS calendar and often sees many alumni travel from all over the country to attend.  This year aims to be even bigger and better than ever with not just a punch hunt, but RTV sections and special stages.  For those of you unsure of what these are come along to the meet and greet on Tuesday the 15th of October to find out more about the event and other forms of off roading we do as a club.

The promo weekend offers the chance to meet lots of new and interesting people, as it will not just be Loughborough university students, but Harper Adams as well.  Don’t worry if your don’t have a vehicle, as there will be two provided by the club so you can get to experience off roading from the drivers seat.
We will be providing free transport to and from the site at 0900 on the Saturday, returning at either 1700 and 1900 on Saturday.  There will also be transport leaving Loughborough on Sunday at 0900 and returning at 1700 and 1900.  Therefore you can either just come for the day or camp over for the weekend to join in on the evening activities.  Dinner will be provided on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday morning, so all you will need to bring is yourselves, snacks, food and drinks for the remaining meals. There will be limited spaces in tents so if you have your own that would be great, all people who are camping will need to bring a sleeping bag.
All of this is available at the amazing price of £10 for non members and £5 for members due to generous subsiding by the club.
To ensure we offer the best experience possible places will be limited to ensure you can get sufficient time driving the club vehicles. Priority will go to paid members, so the sooner you purchase membership the better.  Membership is available from  http://www.lsu.co.uk/society/lords/
See below for a video of last year’s event, and a couple of explanations of what we will be doing

What is a winch challenge/punch hunt: http://www.4x4challenges.org.nz/about/winchchallenge/
What is an RTV (Road Taxed Vehicle Trial):
The RTV trial comprises of about 8 sections of twelve or thirteen gates set out across challenging terrain. Gates are pairs of canes no less than 3 meters apart. Vehicles must drive through the gates without touching them, or ceasing forward momentum whilst negotiating the terrain. Gates are scored from 12 down to 0 or clear, the lower the score the better you are doing.  After a full days driving you may have a cricket score, or a very reasonable total in single figures.

Meet and Greet

October 15 @ 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Event page here.

The meet and greet on the 15th will be a chance for you to meet the committee, hear a bit more about the club and to ask us any questions you might have. The plan will then be to go for a few social drinks afterwards in JC’s, then on to Stupid Tuesday upstairs, where it is “Socs’ on the beach”, so make sure you have your best beach wear and are ready to ride the surf simulator! It would be hilarious for team LORDS to destroy the guys from Surf.

What we do (for you).

Hi All,

Congratulations for showing interest in one of the most exclusive societies in Loughborough! Not because you have to have an expensive off roader, but because you are the ones that have seen the great potential in how much fun you can have on a dirty weekend of a different kind.

We will be having our first social / meet and greet on Tuesday the 15th of October at 20:00 at the Union with the added bonus of an information session, so you can find out everything you want to know about the club and how you can get involved from the current committee and existing members. If you have any questions before please get in touch and ask, we’re happy to help.

As students we all love free stuff, so why not join us for a drink in JC’s courtesy of LORDS after.

If you already want to sign up (and take advantage of £5 discount for those who sign up before the end of Monday) you can do so by signing into http://www.lsu.co.uk/society/lords/ and joining up (it’ll cost £20 but we’ll refund you the difference). Also as a member you get priority for signing up to our Promo Weekend (https://www.facebook.com/events/194387400737897/)

So we have a rough idea on numbers and therefore how much refreshments and money for the bar to bring, please can you reply to confirm your interest in attending the meet and greet.

Regards

Paul

LORDS Chair

P.S carry on reading if you want to know a little more about what to expect throughout the year.

LORDS or Loughborough Off-Road Driving Society was created and grew very quickly, in 2009 it became an official society open to all students at the university, with the purpose of finding like-minded people and giving a chance for anybody to try something new! As well as giving anyone a chance to try off-roading; LORDS also gives the chance for members to learn how to fix/modify vehicles if they wish.

We are aiming to hold at least 2 off-roading events each month, normally every other Sunday, and we hope to have a big whole weekend event once every term. As well as regular off-roading events, we want to have regular socials too every other Tuesday. These will range from going for some food or a few drinks to nights at the union, bowling and BBQ’s (when the weather is a bit better).

Greenlaning days and weekends away provide a good chance to get away from Uni and out into the countryside. We often go to Wales, the Salisbury plains or the peak district for these events. The price of day laning is usually just a fuel contribution to the drivers; for weekend laning trips a small extra payment will cover camping and meals.

Pay ‘n’ play days are trips to disused quarries which are publically open to all 4×4’s. They are large sites for you to go wherever you like, if you can make it! Everyone can come along and drive the club vehicle, which hopefully you all saw at the stand. It costs just £10 for members without their own vehicle. It costs £15 for drivers to bring their own vehicle without a passenger, or £10 if you have a LORDS passenger with you, a saving of £15 compared to the normal cost of £25 if you were to turn up as a normal member of the public on your own!

Annual membership is £20. This money goes towards the upkeep of the club vehicle and subsidising events.

If you are still unsure about joining we are offering a taster session. This will be a chance for you to come along to a trip without having to join! We will aim to get as many new members as possible to come along as a passenger and to drive the club vehicle; however, priority will be given to those who have already joined.
